Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is one of France’s most opulent and historically significant estates, blending grandeur with artistry. Built in the 17th century for Nicolas Fouquet, the Superintendent of Finances for King Louis XIV, the château epitomized Fouquet’s refined taste and ambition. Fouquet enlisted architect Louis Le Vau, landscape designer André Le Nôtre famous for his gardens “a la francaise”, and painter Charles Le Brun, who would later work together on the Palace of Versailles.
Here’s everything you need to know about hosting your dream wedding at Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte.
Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a privately owned, family-run château. The château’s unveiling in 1661 was a defining moment, with a lavish event that included elaborate fireworks, performances, and feasts for guests, including King Louis XIV himself. Unfortunately, the display of wealth and grandeur backfired; Louis XIV saw it as an affront and had Fouquet arrested for embezzlement. This incident led to Fouquet’s life imprisonment and marked the beginning of the Sun King’s rivalry with his ministers.
Over time, Vaux-le-Vicomte became the inspiration for Versailles, its architectural and landscape design setting standards across Europe. Today, it remains one of France’s finest historic venues for events, weddings, and grand gatherings, where its classic French Baroque architecture and the meticulously restored gardens by Le Nôtre offer an unforgettable backdrop.
For me, the château’s timeless elegance, storied past, and breathtaking aesthetics make it an unparalleled choice for hosting luxury events.
The gardens have many possibilities to host different occasions; a ceremony around the crown basin or fountain area, or even in front of the château to have the facade background on full display.
We can have cocktails in any of these areas, and one of the many advantages is the ability to have incredible fireworks, drone shows, and video mapping on the facade that creates an incredible ambiance towards the end of the night. If we are lucky and the weather permits, we love having guests dance under the stars for an after party.
Inside the château is equally as breathtaking. Featuring an amazing ballroom with incredible views of the gardens, we can fit up to 200 guests depending on floor plan figuration. Planning for more than 200 guests? The two adjacent rooms, the Bibliotec and Salon Hercule, add an additional 50 seats for a sit-down dinner.
Thinking of having a cocktail dinner with a mixture of seated and standing? We’ve got you covered there as well. The grand ballroom, along with the additional space in the Bibliotec and Salon Hercule, can host up to 350 guests.
Perhaps my favorite room of all is the Salon des Buffet. With its gold-gilded and pastel color mosaics, it creates an incredibly elegant look that compliments dessert buffets very well.
