Lebanese weddings, renowned for their lavishness and extravaganza, are a harmonious blend of rich traditions, vibrant celebrations, warm hospitality, and prestige. Though many of our clients seek to include modern touches to complement their special day, infusing traditional elements into a luxurious Lebanese wedding not only pays homage to the rich cultural heritage but also adds a timeless and elegant touch to the celebration.

Through our work at Alejandra Poupel Events, we marry the high-value Lebanese culture places on family and communal celebrations with exceptional design.

Let’s explore four traditions to incorporate when planning a luxury Lebanese wedding.

The Zaffa Performance

Zaffa is a traditional Lebanese wedding procession featuring the Groom, drummers, musicians, and various performers. A unique composition for each entrance, usually in Arabic, recounts the couple’s story or memorable moments in a personal, meaningful way. With the Bride waiting at the top of the staircase and the Groom meeting her there, this lively processional is meant to announce the Groom’s arrival and his intention to seek the hand of his beloved Bride. Starting the wedding with the resounding beats and energetic atmosphere of a grand Zaffa sets the stage for a festive and celebratory event.

Live Music & Entertainment

From the mesmerizing Dabke dance to the vocal expression of the Zalghouta, live music, and entertainment is a large part of a Lebanese wedding–enriching the experience and honoring the couple.

During Dabke, guests join hands, forming a human chain, and move to the beat. Dabke isn’t just about fancy footwork, rhythmic stomps, and dips; it’s a symbol of unity, joy, cultural pride, and inclusivity–a reminder that this celebration isn’t just about two people coming together in love, but an entire village of family, friends, and acquaintances celebrating their union.

The Zalghouta, often referred to as “the ululation of joy”, is an integral part of Lebanese weddings. During Zalghouta, Lebanese women declare their love and support for the newlyweds through poetic verses.

Delectable Cuisine

From lavish spreads of delectable mezzes and succulent grilled meats to decadent pastries and desserts, the rich flavors and aromas of Lebanese cuisine captivate the senses and leave a lasting impression; lending to the charmed hospitality and tradition of the Lebanese people.

Through the immersive experience of planning and attending a Lebanese wedding, one thing is abundantly clear––these traditions aren’t just rituals. These customs are a profound reflection of love, unity, and timeless culture.

The Cake Cutting

Often covered in ornate floral designs and sometimes exceeding nine tiers, the cutting of the wedding cake is always a special part of the reception. Usually completed before or during a light show or firework display, Lebanese couples carry on the tradition by cutting the cake in unison–with the Groom placing his hand over his Bride’s–with a sword called “the Seif.”
