Let’s talk Paris weddings

After all, what could be better than a destination wedding in Paris – the city of lights, the city of love? Writers and artists have walked its cobblestone streets for centuries. It has been the birthplace of philosophical movements, fashion trends, love affairs, and revolutions. It’s a place saturated with history and romance. And, of course, it’s an incredible destination to share with your guests. Lavish venues, sumptuous food, fine dining, and so much to see and do. But Paris weddings can also be a challenge to plan, especially if you’re dealing with time differences and language barriers. That’s why it’s important to have someone you can trust on the ground. As a Paris destination wedding planner, I’ve been bringing my clients’ Parisian dreams to life for many years. Today I’m sharing some of my top insider tips to help those just setting out to plan their own Paris weddings!

Choose your wedding date carefully

Before you choose your wedding date, it’s important to take a few factors into account. Paris is a hub for tourism and business, and events like Fashion Week can create issues around hotel and flight availability. Summer can also be a challenge for Paris weddings. For one thing, most vendors close between the end of July and the end of August for the summer vacation period, so it’s best to avoid this period. It’s also worth noting that many of the historical monuments and palaces that make for spectacular Paris wedding venues don’t have air conditioning, and can become uncomfortably hot in the warmest months. A spring or fall wedding is often a better option. Or why not consider a magical winter event?

Have a symbolic ceremony

While it is technically possible to have a legally binding civil ceremony in Paris, it requires you to be a resident for at least 40 days before the wedding. And, as tempting as it may be to move to Paris for a few months, that’s obviously not an option for most couples planning a destination wedding. The best solution for Paris weddings is to have a legally binding ceremony at home first, followed by a symbolic or religious ceremony here in France.

Create an experience

A destination wedding is a wonderful opportunity for guests to experience a place together and there’s so much to do in Paris! Arrange group activities and provide guests with tips to help them explore on their own as well. My number one must-do activity for wedding groups is a luxury boat cruise. It’s simply the best way to see everything the city has to offer in a short amount of time. And if you time it right, guests can enjoy views of the city by day and by night. It’s the perfect option for a welcome dinner.

Arrange a sunrise photo shoot

Couples often ask for a wedding venue with a view of the Eiffel Tower but there are very few. The best option is to arrange a photoshoot with this iconic backdrop either before or after the wedding. Earlier is better so that you can enjoy the city without the tourist crowds.

Be sure to have a Plan B for bad weather

The weather in Paris can be a little temperamental, so it’s important to have a backup plan for an outdoor elements of your wedding. There are many wonderful options and I know all the secret little places – I’m always happy to advise my clients on their options!

Ditch the wedding cake

When planning a destination wedding, it’s always a good idea to embrace local customs. And in Paris, that means a dessert buffet! Our patissiers create the most incredible, mouthwatering displays of cakes, macarons, eclairs, pastries, and of course a croquembouche. Even with all the delicious food served at Paris weddings, the sweets are always the highlight!
